Born in America's oldest fishing port, Gloucester, Massachusetts, the son and grandson of commercial fisherman, Joe Orlando was raised in the fishing industry. At a young age he worked aboard Gloucester fishing draggers and learned the industry from the fish hold to the pilot house.

A 1971 graduate of St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts, Joe matriculated at Boston College, graduating in 1975 with a bachelors degree in Political Science.

A 1978 graduate of the New England School of Law, Mr. Orlando was admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1978. He has subsequently been admitted to practice before the US District Court, 1st Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.

Heralded as "the most prominent in a rising group of young maritime lawyers" (New York Times, Dec. 10, 1984), he founded Orlando & White with the late Edward J. White in 1980.

In 1986, Orlando & Associates succeeded Orlando & White and now has offices in the major seaports of Gloucester and New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Also admitted to the bar in Maine, Mr. Orlando has represented maritime workers from many states.
